KinoSaito’s spacious galleries are designed to highlight ideas at the core of the center’s mission—experimental practices of artists working today seen in relation to Kikuo Saito’s paintings, works on paper and theater design from throughout his over fifty-year career. In the first gallery, visitors encounter a selection of Saito’s work that changes quarterly, each iteration highlighting a theme, motif, painting style or area of focus worthy of the artist’s extended study. The second gallery is a rotating series of exhibitions featuring the work of contemporary artists across disciplines, media, and artistic practices.

Alison Knowles: Celebration Red: Homage to Each Red Thing
Curated by Katrin Lewinsky
7 Mar. – 14 Jun. 2026
In Celebration Red, Alison Knowles extends her long-standing exploration of score, action, and everyday materials into the shared space of the gallery. Structured by a simple grid and activated through the placement of red objects, the work unfolds as a living composition, shaped by attention, chance, and communal action.
*Visitors are encouraged to engage with the art by bringing a red, hand-held object from their own environment to place in the grid.

Irina Lotarevich: Indicators
Curated by Megan Meadowlark
7 Mar. – 14 Jun. 2026
Irina Lotarevich, Housing (Lottery), 2025, Galvanized steel, cast brass, cast aluminum, found chains, 64 x 37 1/2 x 6 1/2 in
Irina Lotarevich was born in Rybinsk, Russia in 1991 and immigrated to New York City as a child. She studied art at Cornell University, Hunter College, and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. She currently lives in Vienna, Austria and teaches metalworking at the Angewandte (University of Applied Arts).
Lotarevich’s sculptural practice is shaped by the intersection of her own subjective experience with larger systems. Materially, she currently works primarily with metal, frequently combining sophisticated hand fabrication techniques with a sensitivity to building spatial narratives. The minimal yet complex and specific forms of her sculptures reference architecture, bureaucracy, labor, language, and parts of her body, as well as the production and circulation conditions of the material itself.

Kurt Steger: No Words
7 Mar. – 14 Jun. 2026
Kurt Steger, Trajectory, 2025, wood, yellow pigment, twine, rebar, concrete base, 22 x 13 x 3 ft. Photo was taken and provided by the artist. Shot at Rockland Center for the Arts.
Steger’s current series of outdoor sculptures speaks to the unspeakable – that place within us that knows that we do not know. Juxtaposing humankind’s attempt to create order in our daily lives, Steger’s work acknowledges both the peace and the chaos of an eternal mystery. These works are symbols, the reflection or manifestation of a journey toward the unknown. Living in nature year-round, these sculptures exist in the seasons, the elements, and the minute atmospheric fluctuations that are in constant motion. Wood, steel, and concrete stand between the shifting weather patterns of sky energies and the grounding forces of earth, all while living with animal, insect, and bird life every day and night. Each sculpture is a collaboration between material, craftsmanship, and nature, challenging its durability over time. The design of the structure, strength of the material, and integrity of the joinery all contribute to the sculpture’s resilience and longevity. Year after year, these sculptures bear witness to the seen and unseen forces of nature as the aging patina reveals itself over time. The artist invites the viewer to read, interpret, and react to the work as they choose, and allow the unknown to reveal itself from within.
